Chapter 2

Veronica was Eileen's best friend since childhood and the undisputed beauty of the Silverclaw Pack.

She had a flawless face and a body that oozed temptation.

At every pack gathering, I could catch the scent of the warriors downwind as they secretly lusted after her.

She often came over for dinner. Every time she did, I couldn't help but steal glances at her.

Whenever Eileen called for a stop in bed, I even used Veronica as a fantasy to finish myself off.

My wolf felt no mate bond with her. However, it could smell a faint, hungry sweetness lingering on her skin.

"Why is she here now?" I asked in a hushed voice while buttoning my shirt.

Eileen's face blushed scarlet.

"She said this afternoon that she was coming for dinner. I already prepared the food. It's your fault for dragging me into the bedroom the second you got home."

I forced my lingering desire down and went to open the door with her.

Veronica was leaning against the doorframe. She wore a white T-shirt and a denim skirt so short it barely existed, showing off the full length of her sexy legs.

Her scent hit me instantly. It was like honey, sweet with a sharp edge. It was a completely different vibe from Eileen's light iris scent.

My wolf twitched its nose. Its tail swept restlessly at the base of my spine.

"You two took forever to open the door," Veronica said with a meaningful smile. "Your faces are red as hell. Were you doing something naughty just now?"

I stepped aside to let her in. As she passed me, I turned instinctively and nearly bumped into her.

That skirt was truly too short. From my angle, the curve of her thigh and the silhouette of her backside were fully exposed.

Her hips were rounder and perkier than Eileen's. They swayed with every step she took. My wolf stared intently and let out a very low whimper.

That seductive sway made me swallow hard. If I could just have her once, it would be incredible.

Eileen walked over and gave my arm a firm pinch.

"Cayden, what's with that look of yours? Are you fantasizing about Veronica?"

"No, of course not," I denied quickly.

"Hmph, you sit and keep her company while I cook." Eileen headed toward the kitchen.

As she passed the living room, she tossed a final comment over her shoulder.

"Veronica, we're drinking until we drop tonight."
